These products screw or nail directly into the roof which will cause water entry points.
These products break the adhesive seal between the rows of shingles. And once disturbed, that adhesive seal between the shingle will never seal properly again. In the FALL time when we see hurricane force winds and you break the starter row of shingles it will blow the entire roof off like a domino effect.
Because of the screwing or nailing into the roof and the breaking of the adhesive seal between the shingles these products have everything to do with the integrity of the roof and will damage the roof and could even void the roof warranty (80 % of the time).
When you have to get a new roof these roof mounted hoods have to come off. In other words you call the company and have them come out and take the hoods off. Then get the brand new roof installed, then call and pay to have the company again come back and reinstall the roof mounted hoods onto your new roof which will damage and could void your brand new roof warranty.
The angle or pitch of the hood solely depends on the angle or pitch of the roof causing overshooting.
Weak gauge aluminum-Gutter Helmet .019. Gutter Topper .024. If you were to place a ladder up against these they will buckle, dent or cave in. If there is any evidence you have placed a ladder on the hoods it will void the warranty.
There is exposed wood in between the lowback gutter and the roof decking that is always being splashed with water, always wet. The wet exposed wood is covered by a hood, therefore, never gets sunlight or a good breeze to dry it out. This will lead to accelerated wood rot, termite infestation and carpenter ant infestation and mold and mildew.

The Englert Leafguard gutter system works on the scientific principal of liquid adhesion. The gutter’s patented, curved design allows rain water to travel down, around and into the gutter’s trough while deflecting leaves and debris.

Uses the thicker .032 gauge aluminum.
Uses the larger 3 X 4 downspouts, however they use the drop tube outlet which takes away the water flow effect the larger downspout will carry.

Disadvantages

Extremely weak injection molded bracket made out of a glass-filled polypropylene. You can snap their bracket in your hand. LeafGuard cannot install in below 32 degree weather because if you put a screw into their bracket in those temperatures it will shatter.
Structurally, their bracket offers absolutely no gutter support causing trough sagging. Because of the lack of gutter support there is no consistency in the gapping relationship between the hood and the gutter. (it’s a very happy gutter that is going to wave to you all the way down the gutter line). The only support a LeafGuard gutter has is on the end caps but the end caps aren’t doing anything to support the middle of the gutter.
The width of their hoods is too short often times not allowing for adequate water surface for the liquid adhesion to occur. This can actually cause the installers to have to cut back your shingles to allow for maximum surface tension. The cutting back of the shingles will damage the roof and could void your roof warranty.
They do not install a gutter drip edge. As a result, water can get in between the gutter and the fascia board and can rot the wood. There is exposure in between the gutter and the roof.
LeafGuard only offers a solid hood system, which is old technology as we have already discussed the problem with dirt and fungus forming on the nose of the hood messing with the liquid adhesion and causing overshooting.

End caps are made of plastic nylon. The aluminum gutter and the nylon end cap have different rates of expansion and contraction causing their end caps to leak frequently.
End caps only come in two colors: White and Royal Brown. Any other color, they “spray paint” their end caps. Nylon does not hold spray paint at all. After a couple of years the spray painted end caps start to fade and chip. All their end caps regardless of color have discoloration issues after a year or two because of the material used plastic nylon.
The perforations on their hood are introverted and the water rolls over top of the perforations as if they’re not even there. Their hood ends up using the same physical law of water surface tension that the solid hoods use making their perforations ineffective (if not useless).
